Varsity Soccer Drops Close Match

Westminster lost a closely contested game 1-0 in overtime tonight to Priory. The much anticipated rematch of the district game from last season promised to be an exciting matchup, with Priory looking to avenge their district loss at the hands of WCA. The game started and was even back and forth with each team playing possession and not many chances on goal for either side. A game saving play was made when goalie Jack Linton, Junior, saved a penalty kick midway through the first half. The game entered halftime with the score deadlocked at 0-0. With the start of the second half, play was much more wide open and the Wildcats had a few good looks at goal. But Westminster would fail to pull ahead, with the defense staying strong to shut down the Priory forwards. Even with the good effort, regulation would end with the score of 0-0. The game then headed to sudden death overtime, as it was both a conference and district match. The Wildcats went on to concede a tough goal on a counterattack from Priory. Despite the disappointing result, the Wildcats remain positive and confident that come time for the district tournament, a win against Priory will be an attainable goal. The Wildcats continue their season next week on tuesday against Pattonville at Westminster at 4:15.
