Wildcats Claim District Crown

Over the last three games, Trevor Weststeyn has done 945 pushups. The Westminster senior does push-ups for the student section for every point the Wildcats score. Over the duration of the playoffs, the Westminster football team has out scored opponents 175-24. Today, the Wildcat football team took the field in the district championship against Borgia. By the end of the first quarter, the game was all but over.

With the score 14-0, the wildcats ran a double-reverse, with Dyllan Conway, junior, pitching the ball to Logan Sells who promptly found quarterback Evan Johnson wide open for a 32 yard score. It was the first receiving touchdown of Johnson’s career.

The defense also played a spectacular game, lead by Drew Melerango, senior.  Melerango recorded two interceptions to push his season total to 5. He also scored Westminster’s final points of the contest when he recovered a fumble for a touchdown on a kickoff. The defense forced a total of 4 turnovers on the day and the Wildcats won 63-14.

The team plays next on Saturday at UCity. The time is 1pm at UCity.
