Cross Country District Preview

The Westminster Cross Country Team (Boys and Girls) will compete for the District Title tomorrow at the Spanish Lake Course.

The Westminster Boys Team has one Meet win on the year and missed a second one by only 2 points.

“Even though we haven’t been the top finisher in all our meets, we have been competitive in every one,” said Matthias Jowdy, senior and 4 year varsity runner.

Jowdy has been one of the most consistent runners on the team and brings the experience and leadership that only a 4 year runner can give. He has 3 Top 10 finishes and has been in the top 25 in all races he’s participated in.

Two other runners who has been crucial this year are sophomores Colin Ring and Caleb Moellenhoff. Ring has 3 Top 25 finishes, including a 2nd place finish. Moellenhoff who joined varsity part way through the season, has finished in the Top 25 in all 4 Meets he’s competed in, with 2 of those being in the Top 15.

The Boys Team is projected 64 points according to Mile Split Mo and could find themselves in the Top 2, or even with a District Title.

As for the Girls team, they have been nothing short of dominant this year. The Wildcats have finished 1st in 6 of their 8 meets this year, and look to capture the District Title.

The Girl’s Team has been able to rely on senior sensation Amanda Espy all season. Espy has finished in the Top 5 for every race this year, but she’ll never tell you that. She goes out each meet and proves it on the course.

“[Amanda] works everyday like she’s trying to earn a spot on the team,” said Ava Hollman, junior, “her example encourages us all to work harder and never be satisfied to give anything short of our all.”

Other runners that have stepped up this year are Ashley Moellenhoff, senior, Ava Hollman, junior, and Isabella Francois, junior. Conterary to popular belief, Cross Country is a team sport and will require every Westminster runner to do their part if they hope to advance to Jeff City.

WCA enters the meet as heavy favorites to win with a predicted point total of 32 (MileSplit MO), but they know they must go out and earn a District Title.

Best of luck to the whole Cross Country Team tomorrow!
