Wow, what a game. After trailing 31-15 at half, Westminster brought the game within one, but were unable to convert as time expires, falling to Lutheran South 49-48, and going to 9-6 on the year. Brennen Orf led all scorers with 28 pts, while racking up 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Few games will be able to rival the atmosphere and intensity that came from Friday Night’s matchup between the Westminster Wildcats and the Lutheran South Lancers. The Student sections for both teams were packed, the play on the court was physical and emotional, and the game came down to the final shot. What more could a fan ask for?

Fourth Quarter, 37 seconds left, Lutheran South leads 49-48 and inbounds after a WCA basket. The Wildcats put on a full court press, following the ball and trapping in the corners. With just over 11 seconds left, the Cats forced a turnover, and had one final chance.

Luke Linam brought the ball up the court, swung it around and fed it inside to Brennen Orf, who had the game of his life. Orf went up strong and was met by two Lancers; Orf was able to fight through contact and get a shot off, but it fell short, ending the comeback and the game.

“I knew it was going to be a fight to the rim, and unfortunately wasn’t able to finish this time,” said Orf on the final play, “It had been a physical game so I knew there would be contact.”

The score, however was not close for most of the game. The Wildcats were completely blown out in the first half, shooting 27% and trailing by as many as 18 points.

“We really didn’t shoot well in the first half,” said Coach Dale Ribble, “We focused much better in the second half, and came out with excitement and energy.”

When Westminster returned after the break, they were a different team. The intensity was high and they stepped it up on defense. Their 3 point shots, hadn’t been falling all day, so they turned to Brennen Orf inside, whose 28 points gave the Cats a chance to win.

But the Cats were unable to complete the comeback, losing by one to Lutheran South. Westminster dropped both rivalry games last week (Priory, and Lutheran South), with the theme being slow first halfs, followed by a strong second half that was just short of getting a win.
