Wildcats Rally Late, Fall to Timberland
- Updated: 09/10/2015
Varsity soccer lost a close contest tonight to Timberland. The two teams took the field trying to pull out a victory after both Westminster and Timberland suffered losses to Rockwood Summit earlier this week. First half play was even for both sides, and there were no serious chances on goal for either team. The game would enter halftime with the team’s deadlocked at 0-0.
Timberland would take a 1-0 lead just ten minutes into the second half as they finished a chance from the center of the box. Later in the half, Timberland would increase their lead to 2-0 off a quick restart that came from a questionable call from the referee.
The Wildcats would not give up and fed off of a late goal by Freshman Patrick Claus. Pulling the ball back, Claus neatly clipped his shot over the Timberland goalie from the top of the box.
With the score 2-1 and only thirteen minutes remaining, Westminster pushed hard to find an equaliser. It nearly came with five minutes left as a long ball was driven into the box and redirected towards the empty goal, only to be cleared off the line by a Timberland defender.
The Wildcats will continue their season next tuesday at Lutheran South at 4:15.
