WCA Football Holds on to Beat MICDS

Despite the colder than usual weather, the Westminster Football team stuck to their winning ways and defeated the MICDS Rams 28-20.

The start of the game was not in favor of the Wildcats. The Rams stormed out of the locker room, scoring on their first 2 drives of the first quarter, but missed one of the extra points, making the score 13-0 Rams. Despite the stroke of good luck, the Wildcat offense struggled to get started in the first half.

The Wildcats warmed up in the sun during the second quarter. A 5 yard pass from Evan Johnson, Senior, to Josh Pottebaum, Junior, and a 5 yard run from Steve Webb, Junior, would make the score 14-13 Wildcats heading into the second half.

The Wildcats would continue this hot streak into the third quarter, scoring on 2 more plays, a 3 yard QB sneak by Evan Johnson, and another 5 yard run from Steve Webb. Entering the 4th quarter, the score was 28 – 13.

To the simple bystander, this score would surely look like a Wildcat victory, but the Rams thought otherwise.

The Rams would again drive the length of the field, scoring a touchdown, making the score 28 – 20 Westminster. The Rams would successfully utilize an onside kick, bringing their offense back onto the field with mere minutes left in the 4th quarter. As the quarter back heaved the ball into the air as the final seconds wore off, the ball would be intercepted by the Wildcats Drew Melaragno, Senior!

The Wildcats held on to win 28 – 20. The Wildcats are now 4-0 on the season! Come out on Saturday and see your Wildcats face off against a strong Lutheran South team!
