Volleyball avenged Wednesday night’s loss, beating Principia in two sets Thursday. Although the Cats didn’t look sharp early, they battled back, figured out what was wrong, and attacked the Panthers winning the first set 25-12, and the second 25-19.
The Williams sisters, not Venus and Serina but Madeline (sophomore) and Meegan (senior), lead the team in kills with 8. Madeline hitting 5, and Meegan, 3.
Elisabeth Sems (junior) also came ready to play, smacking 4 kills. She continued her awesome play, by adding a block and shooting 2 ace’s into the back corners.
Ace’s were also awarded to Avery Engelmyer (sophomore), Macy Catlett (senior), and Amelia Quinn (sophomore), all with two.
Engelmyer also had a couple kills in the game, working the soft touch, as well as slamming one into the gym floor. Hilary Hightower (sophomore) wanted in on some of the slamming into gym floor action by adding a kill in the second set.
Late in the first set, a ball was hit hard directly at a Principia player. Instead of the player using her arms to hit the ball up, she kicked it…very hard. The ball sailed over the WCA players, hitting the back wall on the opposite side. However, Principia never gave up. They became the nagging fly that never went away. In the second set, they made a late run bringing the Westminster lead to 1. Yet, The Cats did not give in and finished the game without giving up another point.
The Volleyball team will look to continue their win streak with their next game on Friday. It is said that there is supposed to be a big crowd with Blue Crew hosting Chick Fila night. Fans will be dressing up in cow and chicken costumes. Come out and be apart of the student section as the Cats take on rival MICDS.
