Ice Cats Drub Eureka
- Updated: 09/26/2015
The Cats came out in the first period ready to score, and it didn’t take them long to take the lead. Early in the first, a decisive pass from Jason Kelley, junior, set up Charlie Zone, junior, to make the score 1-0. Minutes later, Zone assisted Zach Nall, junior, to double the Cats lead. Later in the period, a stretch pass from Harry Medler, junior, gave Wilson Canfield, senior, a breakaway, which he finished to make the score 3-0.
The Ice Cats started the second period much slower than the beginning. Sloppy coverage led to a Eureka goal early in the second. The Cats bounced right back, though, with senior Gannon Mcward scoring a power play goal to make it 4-1. 5 minutes later, more lazy coverage from the Ice Cats allowed Eureka to cut the lead to 4-2. Again, the Cats bounced back, with Jason Kelly, junior, scoring a beautiful goal to bring the game to 5-2. Near the end of the second period, Kelly assisted Harry Medler, junior, to make the score 6-2 going into the third period.
With the game all but out of reach, the third period was a relatively boring period. The Ice Cats increased the lead to 7-3 halfway through the period, with junior Nick Callier scoring a solid goal. With a few minutes left in the game, Eureka scored a 5 on 3 consolation goal to make it 7-3, and this would be the final goal of the game.
Be sure to catch the Ice Cats in the championship game of the Marquette Invitational on Sunday, September 27th at 3:30 pm.
