Varsity Soccer Stuns Ladue in 2 OT

The Wildcats defeated Ladue 1-0 in double overtime last night. The victory was especially exciting as it came on the night when all five of Westminster’s seniors were being honored. The first half of the game saw the Wildcats mostly on the defensive, but absorbing all that Ladue was throwing at them. The game would enter halftime tied 0-0. The second half opened up the game as both teams had quality looks on goal, but nothing to show for it. Senior goalie Jack Linton, was solid in net, making save after save to keep Westminster in the game. Regular time would end with the score still 0-0. The teams would then head to two, ten minute overtime periods with golden goal being played. The first overtime period would end still scoreless, but the Wildcats would push hard to find a win. Then halfway though the second overtime, with five minutes left in the game, Junior Connor Dolan launched a ball from 50 yards into the box. The Ladue goalie could not handle it, and it bounced into the back of net. The team rushed the field and celebrated a hard fought victory against a good team on Senior night. The team is thankful for all that Seniors; Jack Linton, Sam Hunsicker, Andrew Montgomery, Miles Hehner, and Jeremy Yoon have done for WCA Soccer. The Wildcats finish the regular season on Tuesday at MICDS as they prepare for the District Tournament in two weeks.
