Westminster Wrestlers Fall in Invitational

From December 5-6, Westminster hosted its annual invitational, filling the arena with teams from Ft. Zumwalt South, Ste. Genevieve, Timberland, Washington, Rockwood Summit, Marquette, Moberly, Pacific, MICDS, DeSmet, and St. Charles West.

Ft. Zumwalt South won the tournament outright, with a 50 point lead over second place Ste. Genevieve. Westminster did not fair as well, with a last place finish.

Senior Miles Hehner had a few thoughts on the loss. “We did pretty good, considering the circumstances, having very few wrestlers and all.” The team would have faired better had its full squad in attendance.

In his own right, Hehner suffered an elbow sprain. “I went up to post, my arm was straight, and [my opponent] chopped the back of my elbow. It bent inward and I collapsed in pain.” Miles will don a sling for his arm for the next few weeks.

The team’s leading solo performer, sophomore Jesse Parham won 4th place in his 118lb weight class. Parham went up against Noah Patton, from Pacific, one of the top performers in the state, and it took Patton nearly six minutes to pin him. While the whole team performance was lackluster, a choice few individual wrestlers left feeling accomplished despite leaving without collecting any awards.
