Softball Ends 3-Game Skid

The Softball Cats snapped their three game losing streak with a convincing 17-2 win vs Lutheran North.
The Cats offense jumped off to an early 30 lead in the 1st inning thanks to a RBI single from junior Maddie Volding and a 2 out, 2 run triple from junior Izzi Clawson.
Lutheran North responded with a run of their own in the top second inning. After Westminster walked the bases loaded, a catcher interference call brought home the run to make it 3-1. But Wildcat pitcher Lauren Gates got out of the jam with three consecutive strike outs.
In the bottom of the second, the Westminster offense exploded with an impressive 14 run inning. Junior Erin King led off the inning with a walk and proceeded to steal second and third. Then the floodgates opened. Freshman Lauren Gates singled home a run and she was followed by 10 consecutive hits, including triples by sophomore Katelynn Graham and junior Deanne Pfyl as well as an inside the park home run from freshman Reese Earleywine. After the Cats finally made the third out, they had the lead at 17-1.

“We came to the field today looking to get our offense out of the slump we’ve been in. We waited back on the ball and hit it hard like we’re able too, we just haven’t done that recently” said Coach Petke on yesterday’s win, “hopefully we can bring this momentum into the next game and continue to hit like I know we can.”
The Wildcats next game is at 4:15 on Friday at Parkway Central.
