Volleyball defeats MICDS
- Updated: 10/05/2016
The Varsity Volleyball Wildcats defeated the MICDS Rams in three sets. Although the Rams put up a good fight, the Wildcats pulled out the win.
In the first set, the Lady cats came out strong, and had the first lead of the game. Throughout the set, there were multiple lead changes that shifted the momentum. The Wildcats had a rough last 5 points of the set, and gave up their 6 point lead, losing the first set 26-24.
“After a rough first set, we only had 25 points to prove our worth or go home defeated. The team came through by winning the second set after adjusting our play and becoming determined to win,” said Junior Hitter, Hilary Hightower.
One of the biggest aspects that helped the Wildcats turn the game around was aggressive serving from the line. Leading the team in aces, Junior Hitter Madeline Williams had a recorded 6 aces, with Sophomore Defensive Specialist Emma Gustafson not far behind with 3.
This game was the first Emma Gustafson has played in 2 weeks due to a concussion that she got in warm-ups.
“It was great to have Emma back on the court after her injury because she brought energy and scored a lot of points from the service line,” said Senior Hitter, Erin Galakatos.
Not being able to play proved to be very challenging for Emma.
“It felt so good to play again after sitting out with a concussion…it made me realize how much I love volleyball and this team,” said Gustafson.
The wildcats proved themselves in the second set, winning 25-19 and pushed through to earn their chance to win the match in the third set.
Madeline Williams led the team with 10 kills, helping her teammates get fired up and excited to play. The Wildcats pulled off the win and won the third set 25-21.
Although the team admitted this was not one of their best games, the Lady wildcats continue to impress with a winning record.
