McCracken Finishes 5th at State

Over the years, Westminster has had many quality wrestlers come through their program. Michael Weston, Wes Park, and State Champion Alex Hopkins. A lot of their success is a result of Coach Tim Muehleisen expertise and experience in the wrestling world. Although he is usually a man of few words, he has much to say about his newest addition to the team. Westminster wrestling made a vital new addition this past year in Kirkwood transfer Charlie McCracken. He consistently wrestled in the 195 pound weight class with much success. After finishing the season with a 43-9 record, McCracken had high expectations entering the state tournament. In the match for 5th place, he faced a boy from Grandview High School  who he had already beat twice earlier in the tournament. In any perspective sport it is difficult to beat an opponent twice, but in wrestling it is especially difficult. Coach Muehleisen had high remarks for Charlie’s performance, “he wrestled smart and controlled the pace in all of his matches.” Although he lost in the semi-final round, McCracken has big plans for his senior season. “He has unique skill that requires specific athleticism, he’s worth watching,” Mulhisen continued. Finishing 5th overall, McCracken received the honor of the final podium spot! The entire Westminster community was thrilled to see Charlie make the podium as a junior, but even more excited to see what is in store for his senior year.
