The Westminster Wildcats boys basketball team’s season ended on Tuesday night. The loss marked an end of an era for the basketball program here at Westminster. Cliff Degroot and Steve Webb played their last game wearing a WCA uniform, after being on Varsity for four years. Both players hit 1000 points this season, which is an elite club to be a part of. Everyone knew that those two would be leading the team this year, but what nobody expected was the return of DJ Stuart, Weston Schad, and Dyllan Conway. Not only did they return to the team this year, but all three of them started a majority of the season, and contributed to the success the team had this past year. Finishing the season with 18-9 record, the Cats hung up their uniforms wishing they could have made more of a run towards state. In the end, that does not give justice to the team’s success this year. Dale Ribble, first year head coach at Westminster, had to earn the team’s trust in such a short period of time. All the returning players had to adjust to a different style of coaching, which from a coach’s standpoint, is hard to get a completely new group to buy into what Coach Ribble wanted to accomplish. Ribble did a phenomenal job, with his experience he had, coaching the team this year. All in all, the team had a great season, with great coaching, and great senior leadership. Next year’s squad will have big shoes to fill, but there is not one person on the team who is doubting the potential that they could have.
