Wildcats beat JBS in back-and-forth game

4/18/17

WCA 9 JBS 5
The Wildcats improved their record to 19-1 with a back-and-forth 9 to 5 win over fifth ranked John Burroughs on Tuesday afternoon. Starting pitcher for the Wildcats, Carter McCall, scattered seven hits over four innings, allowing just two earned runs while striking out four Bombers hitters to get the win. Relievers Michael Kolb and DJ Stewart combined to preserve the win for the Wildcats; their eighth straight.

The Wildcats got on the board first in the top of the second thanks to an RBI tripled by Connor Dolan, but the Bombers answered right back with a run of their own in the bottom half. In the top of the fourth, Josh Pottebaum hit a towering home run to left field, his second of the season, to give the Cats back their lead. However, in the bottom of fourth, John Burroughs scored two runs as a result of a missed call by the home plate umpire and took their first lead of the game. The Wildcats bounced right back in the top of the fifth bursting out for four runs behind doubles from Jimmy Obertop and Josh Pottebaum but once again the Bombers answered in the bottom of the sixth scoring two runs to cut the lead to one. In the top of the seventh the Wildcats finally put the game out of reach scoring three more runs to increase their lead to four, before turning the game over to DJ Steward to secure the win.
