Futbol Cats defeat MICDS 2-0

The futbol Cats defeated the MICDS Rams 2-0 in dominating fashion only allowing the Rams to have 1 shot on net in the game.

The Wildcats pressured the Rams defense the whole first half which led to 7 shots on goal. The Cats finally broke through with 2 min left on a Zach Cancila goal off a free kick from goalie Joey Keane. The free kick squeezed past the MICDS defense right to Cancila.

“I wasn’t expecting the ball to get through the defense, but it ended up right at my feet. All I had to do was tap in in.” said Cancila about the goal.

MICDS had a shot off the crossbar in the first half, but this was the Rams only shot on goal.
After halftime the Cats kept the pressure on. About half way through the second half, Nathan Laughlin stole the ball from the Rams in his own end and dribbled down the whole field, finally laying the ball off to Frankie Sacco who ripped a shot past the goalie into the net. The nail in the coffin to put the Cats up 2-0. Throughout the whole game the Cats drew fouls resulting in free kicks. Many of their shots on goal came from free kicks right outside of the goal box.

“The defense took the ball away from the Rams every time they had a chance to score.” said Junior goalie Joey Keane, who was very impressed with the way his defense played

The Cats did however lose Junior defender Chris George with a leg injury in the beginning of the first half. George looks to return within 2 weeks.
