Recently ranked Westminster’s #1 athlete, Charlie McCracken, senior, made an impression at the Wildcat’s first tournament of the year.
“The Westminster Tournament” is an annual tournament that begins the season for the Wildcats and many other teams around the area. Some of the biggest schools that participate in this tournament are Marquette, DeSmet, Moberly, and Fort Zumwalt South.
Charlie McCracken faced Marco Perla in the championship match, as both of them were undefeated in the tournament up to this point. Charlie knew he was up for a challenge.
McCracken beat Perla 8-3 in the big match and this boosted his confidence greatly. McCracken knocked Perla down to 6th in the state and moved himself up to 2nd overall.
Reflecting on the tournament McCracken said, “My competition was very tough, but I prepared well prior to the championship match so I got a big win.”
Throughout the weekend he faced many tough opponents, but none of them compared to Marco Perla from Marquette. Perla has two older brothers and both of them have won state for wrestling at Marquette and Marco is trying to live up to his last name.
The Wildcats wrestling team knew that they would not do well as a team, but they knew that some of their players could do very well.
Charlie McCracken, the best wrestler on the team was predicted to win 3rd place in the state tournament before the season started so him and the team were confident that he would do well in this tournament.
McCracken is fun to watch as he is so dominant against all of his opponents.
Come support the dominant McCracken and the Wrestling Cats at Vianney on January 3rd.
