Q&A with Margo O’ Meara

Q: How long have you been diving and what accomplishments have you earned?

A: I have been diving for about nine years. I’ve been the regional champion many times, and the zone champion many times. I competed in 2017 Nationals. I finished second in the quarterfinals and fourteenth in the semifinals. I’ve been ranked in the Top 10 nationally for my age group.

Q: Where do you dive outside of WCA?

A: I dive for Clayton Diving and RipFest in Indiana (run by a former US Olympic Coach).

Q: How cool was it to break the WCA diving record in your first meet?

A: It was really exciting, I had so much fun. I really enjoyed diving with all my teammates, and it was just a lot of fun.

Q: What goals do you have for your future as a diver?

A: I want to compete in the World Championships and PanAmerican Games. I want to win State this year and be a four-time state champion during my high school career.

Q: Do you play any other sports and what is your favorite sport?

A: I also play soccer for St. Louis Scott Gallagher Elite ECNL. I have been to US National training camps.

Q: How many hours per week do you practice?

A: Depending on the time of the year, anywhere between 6 and 18 hours per week.

Q: What was it like to win diving at Ladue even though you are just a Freshman?

A: It was really fun. I love to win, and especially when I got to help my teammates win the meet. So far the experience with WCA has been incredible.
