Girls Swim and Dive Season Recap
- Updated: 02/22/2019
This past weekend, Girls Swim and Dive had a select few swimmers make their way down to the St. Peters Rec-Plex to compete in the State Meet. As a whole, the team finished eleventh in the state out of thirty two teams.
The Wildcats competed in the 200 and 400 relays, placing eighth in 200 and seventh in the 400. The 200 freestyle relay team, consisting of Lauren Zone, Payton Dunn, Margo O’Meara, and Camryn McMurry, swam a 1:43.69 at the state meet, just behind the seventh place finisher. In the 400 free relay, the team was made up of Payton Dunn, Margo O’Meara, Camryn Mcmurry, and Grace Skiljan. With this similar look to the 200, the team placed seventh with a 3:47.03, barely knocking Cape Girardeau Central down to eighth.
Taking a look at the diving results, Margo O’Meara placed first, taking home a State Championship for the second year in a row. With 520.25 points, Margo was only 3.25 points shy of the Missouri state record at State.
In the individual results, O’Meara placed 15th in the state on the 50 free with a 25.60 time, which was .01 behind the 14th place finisher. In the 100 butterfly, Payton Dunn represented Westminster, grabbing a 1:01.74 time and finishing 13th in the state. Dunn also competed in the 500 free, finishing in the 9th place (5:22.09). Lastly, Camryn McMurry made a state appearance, finishing in 9th place in the 100 free with a 55.22 time.
The Girls Swim and Dive team this year had a successful season, and it should be considered one to remember. The team will say goodbye to ten seniors: Lauren Bell, Noelle Burkey, Lilly Coln, Payton Dunn, Grace Gevers, Mia Goff, Grace Johler, Hannah Park, and Abby Richards. Many of these seniors truly helped shape this team throughout the year and throughout their careers, and we wish them the best of luck in the years to come.
