The Wildcats punished the Priory Rebels 3-0 tonight in the district semifinal game. Writing a new chapter in the Westminster-Priory rivalry, this solid victory came despite the steady rain that persisted throughout the night. The two teams would meet with Priory aiming to avenge their district loss to Westminster last season, and Westminster looking to get even after losing a close match to the Rebels earlier this year. The game started with equal possession for both teams, and WCA having a few solid looks at goal. Then with sixteen minutes left in the first half, Sophomore Frankie Sacco finished a shot after battling for the ball in front of the Priory net. Breaking the deadlock, the score was 1-0 in favor of Westminster. The game would go to halftime with the Wildcats possessing the lead and gaining momentum. The Rebels would not go quietly though, as they fought hard for most of the second half to find an equalizer. But it was to no avail. Westminster would not relinquish the lead as Junior Jack Bauer scored on a great head ball that the Priory goalie could not handle. Then two minutes later, Sophomore Frankie Sacco grabbed his second goal of the night, putting the game out of reach with a score of 3-0 with only five minutes left. This explosive show of offense helped to ensure that Westminster will have a chance to defend their district title later this week. This game was made complete by the stellar performance of Senior captain Jack Linton, who kept WCA in the game with several key saves on his way to a shutout. Seniors Sam Hunsicker and Andrew Montgomery were huge for the Wildcats as they provided needed energy for the team in this win. The Westminster defense also came up big tonight playing smart and physical as they led the way to victory. The Wildcats will continue their season as they look to repeat as district champions against Parkway West on Thursday at 6:00 pm at Parkway Central and would very much appreciate a big turnout from the Blue Crew.
