The Westminster Boys Varsity Basketball team dominated Parkway North on Saturday en route to a 67-40 victory in their first round district matchup. Brennan Orf led all Westminster with 17 points on 8-11 shooting.
Westminster started the game off fast, leading Parkway North by a score of 9-3 and later in the first half, 20-5. The Wildcats had a strong possession at the end of the second quarter to score a layup at the buzzer to make the score 32-11 headed into the locker room.
Parkway North started the second half with a small run, but they slowed down quickly, and Westminster continued its dominance.
The moment that summed up the game for Parkway North occurred after Brennan Orf was fouled on a shot for an and-one. A Parkway North big man yelled out in anger, and picked up a technical foul. It was a very frustrating game for the Vikings.
Senior Alex Token had one of his strongest performances of the season, ensuring that this game would not be his last by scoring 10 points on 3-5 shooting and making all four of his free throws. Jerram Adams added 14 points.
Westminster faces John Burroughs on Tuesday at 8:30 in the second round of the district tournament. If they win, they will likely face Parkway Central in the district championship game on Friday.
However, the Bombers have had the Wildcats’ number in both matchups this year, defeating Westminster at home by a score of 47-41 and on the road by a score of 48-33. This is a winnable game, though. Westminster has size and inside and is looking to avenge their last two losses to this team.
“What’s great about tournament play is that the previous two don’t matter at all if we win this game on Tuesday,” said Brennan Orf.
